#SWAGALERT: Schoenhut Toy Pianos!!!

swagschoenhut

Whether you know it or not, you’ve heard the sound of a toy piano before. Kids love them, but they’re not just toys. They’ve also been used in countless recordings by artists such as Radiohead, Tori Amos, Evanescence and Dresden Dolls. Classical musicians have also embraced their distinctive, bell-like sound, recording entire solo toy piano albums.

Chances are, when you’ve heard a toy piano, it was a Schoenhut. Their name has become synonymous with the toy piano sound. In fact, the modern form of toy piano it was created by Albert Schoenhut in 1872, when he was only 17 years old (ambitious much?). He took the old German toy piano (which was made with brittle glass bars), and substituted strong metal bars, which changed the sound considerably as well as making the instruments far more durable. And a classic was born.

All Schoenhut pianos come with the Schoenhut patented Learning System, which includes a color-coded overlay for the piano and a songbook with corresponding color-coded notes, which makes it fairly easy to teach your child some songs, even if you’re not Beethoven.

My First Piano II

My First Piano II

This adorable shiny red piano immediately conjured images of a tiny Elton John, wearing tiny glasses, singing Tiny Dancer. It’s compact two-octave range means that it’s pretty portable, and my 2 year-old son, Noah, is drawn to this piano’s glossy finish in the same subliminal way that I’m drawn to shiny red sports cars. This is not a precision-instrument however, it’s a toy, so keys occasionally trigger the wrong notes. For instance, when plunking the middle C several times in a row, an occasional B would sound. This of course, will never matter to Noah. The tone is glorious for such a tiny instrument. As is the phenomenon with full-size upright pianos compared to grand pianos, the sound is dense from reflecting inside the smaller cabinet… which means you hear less attack and more sustain on the notes… which means (how technical can we get when talking about toys?) the sound is a bit less percussive and more melodic than the grand. Everyone still with me? A very fun unit to play.

My First Piano I

20090617-dyu1a9mtaxnpmpeau2mq41wdc8

This “My First Piano” is very similar to the red model reviewed above, but comes in a smaller 18-key size. This means less range, but more portable. Still shiny!

Traditional Spinet

20090617-tjrnqkanjkppp8fsj74xsprxk

This model earned the distinction of being the only toy piano ever played in Carnegie Hall. The sound has more depth than the “My First Piano” series, because of the larger cabinet. It bridges the gap nicely between the little guys and the Baby Grand Piano.

Baby Grand Piano

309gw-1

Beautiful, spacious and (once again) shiny, the baby grand is a full three octaves, meaning Noah can brush up on Moonlight Sonata… just as soon as he learns what that is. The lid even raises, and it comes with a music stand. All it’s missing is a tiny candelabra. Because it can be with the lid raised, the tone is airier than the upright, as the sound has more room to spread out. This unit didn’t have the wrong-note trigger issue that the upright did, but because there are more extreme high and low notes here, the notes on the fringes were harder to keep in tune. But this piano was also very fun to play, and it is more than enough keyboard for Noah!

Bottom Line

I highly recommend any Schoenhut piano, but as far as these models go: the uprights are great for smaller children (1-3yrs), the Spinet would be well-suited for 2-5yrs, and the grand is one to grow into (3 & up), as Noah is currently a little intimidated by its scope, though he loves running over to it, hitting some keys, and running away.

In the studio, they are all very useful. I prefer the smaller models for their portability, and will use them when I need a more “singing” tone, while the grand is a bit hard to find a spot for in a little recording booth, and suited more for percussive passages.

All are fun, sound great, and are (most importantly) VERY SHINY.

I think the pianos are absolutely adorable! My little guy would be in his glory having a piano his size.

  • http://penelopesoasis.blogspot.com/ Penelope

I would love to win it in black! I am a subscriber.

  • http://kara-organicgirl.blogspot.com/ Kara Pearson

Schoenhut makes a wide variety other than pianos. I didnt even know that there was such a think as a finger piano, thats cool. I grew up playing instruments and loved it the whole time. I learned how to play the violin and flute as a kid and now that my children are getting older , (4 in the range of 8mths to 13yrs) my daughter really wants to learn the guitar and piano. So we are a music loving family. The site is based on childrens music interests and that is really really cool . I would pick the black as it is standard color. I also liked the daycare piano… good one for my house too, This is a great contest. lil_lolas@hotmail.com

Schoenhut makes ideal starter instruments. At every age really. The pianos designed for certain ages its very advanced really. I remember banging on my grandparents piano year ago. Hopefully they are made just as tough lol. I have your button on my blog , i am a follower(VIP subscriber) and I have tweeted this giveaway for all to see. This is a great contest , thanks

When I saw these pianos I instantly thought of Schroeder from the Peanuts comic strips and how Lucy used to swoon over him. Schoenhut’s miniature pianos are so fun and whimsical that it’s no wonder children love the tunes that flow through them.

The detail put into these tiny pianos is fantastic. My husband plays the organ and when he saw these he flipped for them. If that wasn’t enough, the Gallery of Stars definitely raised my “aww” factor. Zakary dressed in all white in front of his baby grand and Aiden in concert definitely put a smile on my face.

The quality of these pianos is definitely evident when you see that a Julliard graduate has composed an entire cd using only the toy piano.

  • http://justanotherhofeling.blogspot.com/ AutumH

Their pianos are gorgeous, and it would be wonderful to have one in a smaller size so my boys could learn how to play it more easily!

  • GWEN

I love these pianos. It is a great “toy” to start out budding musicians.

I think your products are amazing- my son loves music, and I want him to learn to play the piano, but we live in a tiny home and dont have space for a full-sized piano. This would be a wonderful option for us.

  • LeeAnn P.

My 3 yr old DD really wants to learn how to play the piano. Her 7 year old cousin has been taking lessons for years and now DD wants in on the action. I showed her the beautiful Schoenhut pianos on the website and she was delighted “just like a real concert, Mama!” were her exact words. We’d love to win this!

I absolutlely love pianos. When looking at your site, I absolutely fell in love with the gallery of stars. What an instant selling tool. People love real life and real life portrays well in the snapshots you have of all ages of kids. Great product and great site.

  • http://superdumbsupervillain.blogspot.com/ Naomi

I can only imagine how much Roo and Jasper would love the Schoenhut Baby Grand… they seem to possess an innate rhythm that has eluded their poor mommy, whose sole musical talent is playing an unrecognizable “Teenage Kick” on guitar. (Actually, talent might be the wrong word.) I can see them rocking out the Schoenhut Junior Drum Set and Glockenspiels, too! I appreciate the fact that these are instruments, not just toys.

  • DebbieKL

Oh man – I’d love one of these! I’ve been thinking of getting one for my son. I’d get the black baby grand. I also like the Daycare Durable Spinet
Model 3798 and the Model 6625 Schoenhut Traditional Spinet. It’s cool they have pianos for the bigger kids as well.

  • http://www.terrythorntonandfamily.blogspot.com stacey

Oh wow! Love them! Must have one!

  • http://nealkim1921.blogspot.com Kim

Love it!:) My husband is an amazing piano player but since getting married we havent been able to afford a piano and I would love for my kids to enjoy the piano. What a neat way to start giving them that desire. This might have to be their next birthday OR Christmas present!

  • Jennifer M

Incredible idea and the pianos look gorgeous. I like the gallery of little stars on the website.

  • http://www.myspace.com/greensthings/ Jacquelynn Franklin

Thank you, for holding such a wonderful giveaway! My Grandson will be two soon and this piano would make the most AWESOME birthday present! He is fascinated by anything musical! These Piano’s are more than just a toy, they are actual instruments, what a way to develop a love for music and an appreciation for a beautiful instrument!

  • Lisa W

Their pianos are so cute and actually look like the real thing. My hubby has an upright and these toy pianos would let my child be like daddy. They also look very durable. Thanks. angel_2417@yahoo.com

  • Amy Waldon

These are so adorable. I love how they have them in different sytles too. I had a mini piano when I was little but it was nothing like this.

  • http://sarajcarter.blogspot.com Sara Carter

Wow, these pianos are really adorable! I play piano, so I’d love to get my son interested, and this would do the trick!

  • Shannon O’Sullivan

This is soooooo neat!! I love how they look like the real thing! I think the black baby grand is to die for…my trips have broadened their musical talents with drums…I think these are just the thing to make them push me over the edge haha

I’m kidding…but EVERY child needs something to make noise!!

  • Jennifer McLachlan

These are the most adorable little things and my daughter would just love it! As an adult, it’s hard to believe that something so small and cute can produce true piano sound! A fabulous learning tool!

  • http://psychmamma.wordpress.com PsychMamma

We’re trying to decide if we want to purchase a toy piano or just get a full-size. Our 3 y/o LOVES all things musical, and we’d love to foster that interest. These pianos look great and are making me lean toward starting her with something her size that’s less intimidating! Thanks for the great post and for the chance to win such a fantastic prize!

  • http://www.thedragontree.com Peter Borten

Woohoo! I wish someone had made me take piano lessons as a kid, because piano is such a great foundation for all other instruments. I have played with these Schoenhut ones and they really are more of a real instrument than a mere toy. Nicely made. Learning music helps kids’ brains develop & piano teaches kids coordination, rhythm, tone and overall appreciation for music. (And for aging adults, learning a new instrument work your brain in ways that help prevent dementia.) Not to have too lofty aspirations for my 19-month-old — I’ll be happy if she just bangs on the keys and gets a kick out of it!

  • Shay

This is incredible….my daughter would love to learn how to play the piano. We have a real one, but it is just too big for her to play. This is really a great idea.

  • http://kara-organicgirl.blogspot.com/ Kara Pearson

I visited the site earlier and I am super impressed with all the instruments they make for different ages. I started music very early and love it , as do my kids. My daughter is just starting the guitar and is enjoying it alot. I didnt know they made a finger piano, that is something i have never seen before. THis would be great for my toddlers to win. My favorite is the black as it would just blend in well with everything. lil_lolas@hotmail.com

  • Sarah

I love the website! Such a wide range of products and beautiful at that. Each is described well and the photos are great! The pianos are amazing.
    What a cool product!

  • http://www.seekscoffeeandgrace.blogspot.com angie liskey

Wow. I am so excited that these little pianos exist!! My daughter has problems with her fingers – either she using all 5 as one, or only uses her pointer. My mom and Grandpa, an aspiring 72 year old piano player, suggested that I find a piano and get her lessons young fingers working correctly. I didn’t know that these pianos existed! This gives me hope!

For other kids in therapies, like my daughter, music is so healing. To have something that is just for their level and their own musical development at such a young age, will truly bring healing to a lot of families.

I especially like the upright, as the kids couldnt stash their “treasures” in there, which would happen in my house.

I love the “normal” looking colors you use to make it look just like the parents piano. However, I would suggest some alternate colors and designs – maybe I “design of the year?” It would be a limited design, only available for a year. Parents get excited about stuff like that and a kid will get attached and “have to have it.” I hope that doesn’t make you feel like you are pulling away from the feel of your work, but I liked the piano in honor of 9/11, unfortunately, that design would not be popular forever.

Maybe even have a contest for a family to design the piano of the year?

I love what you guys are doing. Thank you for caring for our children. I hope to have one of these pianos for my daughter one day.

  • Vickie Couturier

I would like a black one should I be lucky enought to win an I also like the fact that Child may feel more confident playing a piano “just his/her size”

  • cher

Did anybody else feel giddy looking at these pianos? Beyond the Schoenhut Fancy Baby Grand Model 3005 looking exquisite, there are some practical things about it that are quite appealing. I really like that they are designed so our son will learn proper “finger stretch.” The patented learning system with the color strip seems like a great way for our son to glide from chord to chord too. The children look so happy playing the pianos. I wanted to do something unique for my entry to I found a fun fact about piano students to share:

Research shows that piano students are better equipped to comprehend mathematical and scientific concepts. A group of preschoolers received private piano keyboard lessons and singing lessons. A second group received private computer lessons. Those children who received piano/keyboard training performed 34% higher on tests measuring spatial-temporal ability than the others — even those who received computer training. “Spatial-temporal” is basically proportional reasoning — ratios, fractions, proportions and thinking in space and time. This concept has long been considered a major obstacle in the teaching of elementary math and science. Source: Neurological Research February 28, 1997

I love their products – the pianos are amazing and my son would LOVE one! And they are perfect for getting a start on music making without a super serious investment in money or space. The black upright is my fav!

  • kay

omg, these are so cute! i love that it’s kid-sized…then i don’t have to worry about my daughter climbing up on our full size piano.

  • Stephanie V.

What fantastic pianos! Great way to start the children young to appreciate music and learn basic scales. Love the pianos never need tuning – bravo!

  • erianna

It is hard to believe these beautiful pianos are even considered “toys”.. I would love to have one for my son as he grows, so he can appreciate the classic beauty of piano music–but at his own size! They are perfect!

  • amie

I love the colour coding! I remember my Mom stuck stickers on our full sized piano in different colours so I could learn this way at first. it is such a great way to start learning!

  • Melissa

I love that the pianos come with color-coded strips to facilitate learning how to play!

  • Leah

I love how you can have your children learn a love for music at such a young age. Kudos to Schoenhut for making kid-friendly pianos and introducing them to such a powerful tool for brain development!

  • amy

For one thing I think that the person writing for them is a poet! Sounds like they’ve been around for some time and the product is quality.

From our home of amateur pianists, we all love the Shoenhut pianos! Usually we only like Black Grands, but the upright NAMM Centennial Edition was so beautiful and full of personality. A close second was the Louis XV Grand. But they are all very lovely!

i love the schoenhut pianos – i had one when i was little. my little kiddo would love to have one! they are so nice and SHINY! :) hehe.

  • Lauran

I started playing the piano by ear when I was 2 years old (my parents would sit me on the piano bench when guests came over and it just went from there). My memories of tickling the ivories on our Baldwin upright were definitely fond ones. I loved the miniaturized version of the Shoenhut grand as well as the upright. We are expecting our first child and I would be proud to have one of these quality pieces for her to tickle when she’s ready! Gorgeous craftsmanship and quality win out over any others I’ve seen. Kudos to Shoenhut and congratulations on their 135th year anniversary!

  • http://www.lovingdanger.wordpress.com LovingDanger

Love love love these! My husband is an avid piano man and can’t wait to get our little girl playing. This would be a great gift that the two of them could share. My favorite is the mini baby grand.

  • JenCE

Wow what nice instruments. I believe that any instrument you give a child should not just be a toy; my daughter plays her big band harmonica. I Love the red- so shiny.

  • casey

I love their products. They all look so well made and unique!

  • suzanne

We have been looking for a piano for my daughter. She is almost four and already plays a little in her music class and little electronic keyboard. She loves to listen to Opera and tries to play the melodies all the time. What a great gift this would be. Just the right size and the right feel.

  • http://sillymommy2sillygirls.blogspot.com/ Noreen

great layout but on the first page the three listed colors are not the only ones available. If I had been looking for a pink one I might not of gone past the home page

  • http://klausehouse.blogspot.com Anita

I am so impressed with how these sound. I enjoyed looking at the gallery of sweet pictures. I have a little daughter who dreams of piano lessons. She would go bonkers if we won this. I especially like the white one. The pink is so precious too. I think talent can be found and heard at very young ages. This is wonderful!!! I love Schoenhut Toy Pianos!!!! Blessings!

  • Ysenia Ramirez

I think these are the coolest kid size pianos. My daughter would love one. Thanks for the entry.

  • Melissa

I love the attention to detail and the quality construction in these instruments…they are not cheap plastic toys, but are instead made to last!

  • Steven

I love the Schoenhut piano’s. I saw one in a store last Christmas and was plunking a few notes out and couldn’t believe the sound from a toy piano. My wife and I are both musicians (we play 5 instruments and vocals together and my wife has a music degree). We very much hope our kids will enjoy music as much as we do, but they’re still a bit young. These piano’s would be great to introduce them to a piano since the full size baby grand would be rather intimidating.

  • Wendy

My only suggestion would be to include a price range on the website rather than having to call for pricing. It would make purchasing more convenient.

  • http://www.castleberrytales.blogspot.com Brianna

I have played the piano since I was a girl and I always thought it would be neat if my children wanted to learn also. I think these mini pianos are just darling and what a fun way to instill a love for music in someone so young! My 15-month-old son would have a blast with one, I know it!

  • http://roxy-littlelovebugs.blogspot.com/ Roxanne Carson

I have five daughters and I just found out my five year old can hear melody and while at a friends house on a piano she picked it up really quick..I couldnt believe it and these little pianos are so cute and so realistic its amazing. Thanks for the chance to win one!

I love their products :) I’m impressed that one of the pianos was used in Carnegie Hall! It’s a very elegant looking piano.

  • http://kyootycenter.blogspot.com/ kyooty

That is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while as a toy for kids. I’m so impressed by the video too, that was cool to see a man playing that piano not just kids plunking away. You can hear the sound. I took lessons for 8yrs and didn’t stick with it, but my husband is very musically inclined so maybe there is hope for my boys?

  • Melissa

I like that there is a color selection for many of the pianos!

  • http://musebookreviews.blogspot.com Jena

Aw, this reminds me of the toy piano my grandma had when we were kids. I wonder what happened to it…? Also, I think Maddy (on Matt Logelin’s blog) has that pink one. He’s posted video of her rockin’ out on it. And I really love their red spinet (though I’m impressed that they have thumb pianos and xylophones and glockenspiels! Wow!).

  • http://musebookreviews.blogspot.com Jena
  • Steven

These little piano’s are Grand. lol

I think it’s a great way for children to learn piano without being intimidated by a full size piano. I love the pictures in the gallary of little stars, they’re all so adorable. Maybe a video or two of the “little stars” playing would be a nice added touch too.

  • Maggie M

OMGosh, what an amazing giveaway!!! I am so stoked! I cannot believe the selection of pianos Schoenhut makes for toddlers-I had no idea. The Fancy Baby Grand has 30 full-sized keys to provide our children the opportunity to learn proper “finger stretch”, basic music concepts and playing skills. The piano is just the right size for my granddaughters, who love to play instruments and sing. I love the patented “Learning System” with the removable color-coordinated strip that fits behind the keys to guide small fingers from chord to chord. I think I would want the classic Black if I won. I need to close my mouth now, LOL!

  • http://thriftycraftmama.blogspot.com maryanne

My little boy would love one of these pianos, and maybe he would finally let me play our digital piano without having to play at the same time. I would also feel better about him sitting at this small piano than up high on our grown-up piano bench.

  • Erin

I love these pianos. My husband plays our adult piano every morning and of course our son always wants to play along with him. Our larger piano obviously isn’t our son’s size. I love that these pianos have a similar look to adult pianos so as to make kids think they are exactly like their parent’s stuff. It seems kids always know the difference between the real cell phone and the fake but they do love “real” looking stuff that is their size (good chairs, tables, etc..). I think this would be a wonderful piano for our son to start enjoying music with.

  • Maggie M

Model 3005 is the Schoenhut Fancy Baby Grand. It is chromatically tuned, the tone never changes nor will the piano ever need tuning! I am in awe of the children’s “starter” pianos made by Schoenhut, for ages 3 and up. Amazing!

I also thought of Charlie Brown when I saw the pianos! Very sweet. I loved the gallery and the age range of the children! Not a sad face in the group. I would love to be able to watch my daughter create her own songs with the music to match as at 17 months she already loves to sing. Beautiful craftsmanship!!

  • Amie

I am never seen one of these pianos in real life so I loved the gallery feature on the website. It looks like they are a lot of fun, the children look so sweet playing them and they are stylish and classy enough to fit in a home, not just a playroom.

  • Rachel C

these look so great. the quality sounds wonderful. I am really hoping my little guy got his daddy’s musical talents, so maybe this would be a perfect first instrument for him! thanks!!

I love how Schoenhut has designed different pianos for our children at different stages/ages in their life. It makes it easy for us to introduce music young, but have something that can grow with our children as well.

  • Melissa

I like the shiny, glossy finishes.

  • Helena

Love this! I think the white baby grande is just gorgeous… These would make learning easy to start early!

These little piano’s are absolutely great. I can’t believe the sound from them, and the intricate music that can be played on them. I listened to the audio files on their website and they’re amazing. I wish there were more video’s on the site showing off people and kids playing them though.

  • Steven

    I also subscribe.

I would love to win this piano as my wife and I and oure families are heavily into music and hope our kids can continue in our traditions.

I didn’t really play the piano as a kid and I know I definitely never understood the pedals. I love that these are small enough that a “Child can reach the pedals to make full use of the piano.”

  • Melissa

I like that there is video of the piano being played on the website!

  • Steven

I think these little piano’s are great and I like what they’ve included on their website. The gallery of little stars is so cute and it’s great to see they’ve included pictures of some of their employees making the pianos. It’s quite the sight seeing all those piano’s stacked on top of each other. I think a few more video’s would be nice; to go along with the sample video for the slightly larger version piano.

  • http://skemommlenskedaddle.blogspot.com/ Ammie

The red piano is gorgeous. It looks classy and fun, perfect for a child’s instrument!

  • http://kristiesnotes.blogspot.com/ Kristie

The pianos are beautiful! I love the Model 2505 in Mahogany-it looks like our full size piano! :-)

  • sito

Another terrific giveaway! I checked out their site and am charmed by the pianos. I am especially taken with the Schoenhut Psaltry, though. How unusual, and how fun!

  • xenia

I’m sure there are people that would be afraid to allow a child to play on such a nice thing, but I think it’s important to teach children early that not everything is a toy but that even so, they can be so much fun!

My husband is a music teacher and aspiring musician so this would be PERFECT for our kids!!! Schoenhut is the name to buy, that is for sure.

I also saw that they have been around a LONg time, and that is reassuring :)
I personally love all the pink choices :)

  • Steven

These little piano’s are fantastic and sound great too. I like all the different models that are available. The Centennial version reminds me of an old player piano my uncle used to have. I think the guitars and drums look great too but wish there were sample clips of them as well.

  • Annette D

I think that these Pianos are lovely. I think that having a Piano kid sized would really encourage them to want to learn to play! I love the black.

What a beautiful prize! I can tell you that both my 4-year-old and my 6-year-olds would LOVE to win this! I’m also expecting a baby next month and I have no doubt she will love it, too. My children are very much into music, especially my 4-year-old who has a speech delay. Singing and playing with instruments has really helped him to express himself.

I really like the fact that the piano never needs tuning.

    Thank you for the opportunity!

The wide line of piano styles is quite impressive. Even more impressive are all the other instruments they offer. No music lover could look at the Schoenhut site without a lot of “I want!” going on internally.

  • http://skemommlenskedaddle.blogspot.com/ Ammie

The pianos are the perfect size for little ones. Even my son (who has huge hands) is much better suited to one of these beauties than he is to adult pianos.

  • Kate

With a playroom full of plastic down the hall, I am so drawn to these pianos. They really are something special. It would be a welcome addition to the living room – unlike much of the “stuff” that you want to keep hidden. I’ve had the privilege of seeing these pianos in person and can really appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into each.

I think these piano’s are fantastic. We’re a very musical family with my wife having a bachelor’s degree in music ,my mother in law being a certified piano teacher and numerous others in my family being able to play one or more instruments, including myself. It’s great to see such quality instruments designed for children so they don’t feel overwhelmed by the full sized instruments, and with the colour coded overlay for learning maybe I could even help to teach our child to play the piano…even though my specialty is guitar.

  • Lisa

I love that the pianos come in such fun colors! The one painted like a flag on their website is SO cool!

  • Heather McD

I think these piano’s are great and to be around for 135 years really speaks to the timelessness of the instruments and quality of all their products. I think their website has lots of great pictures and details, but I thought a little reorganizing of the website could go a long way. I thought perhaps putting the link for “our factory” and “our awards” higher on the list and “resellers list” lower down or in a separate section. That way people who are browsing the website don’t run into authorized links and it doesn’t interupt the flow of browsing. I thought maybe they can highlight the video on the frontpage a little more instead of having it in the same text as other regular information; a picture to highlight the video might be nice…or to maybe imbed it so all you have to do is click play. Either way I think their instruments look and sound great and congratulations on 135 years.

  • Mary

I’d love to get one of these so that my sons can start to learn to play the piano!

These piano’s are great. I’ve played on in a store and was totally blown away by the sound. I like their website but thought it might benefit from a few minor additions. I thought maybe a short video of the manufacturing process might be nice and maybe a slideshow or the like with pictures of some of the past piano’s they have produced. I’m sure they’ve had some great and unique piano’s produced over 135 years.

Hi again! July 20th entry please! I love this piano! Perfect for kids to learn on

  • Steven

I think all these instruments look great and there’s such a wide variety of them. I noticed a few little things about the website though that I thought might use a little fixing up. There are a couple inconsistencies which I saw that could be easily rectified. The summary of the guitar says it’s for ages 7 and up, while its description says ages 4 and up. The banner right above the 135 year anniversary says more than 130 years so I thought they could use to update the banner. I also thought it might be nice if they listed the songbooks separate from the instruments as well because when I initially looked at the list of instruments I stopped once I reached the books and didn’t notice that there were more available instruments under the list of songbooks. The piano’s look and sound great which is the main thing though.

How gorgeous! And such a great idea! A kid-sized piano that looks just like a mini version of the real thing instead of a plastic, brightly coloured key fake!

  • Steven

The care in making these piano’s sounds absolutely amazing. The fact that in this day and age the piano’s are still hand made and tuned in phenomenal. I can’t believe that a piano designed for children is so detailed as to even have hammer strikes to create the sound. It’s great to see an instrument made for children that’s not designed for children, and that they’ll have to work at to learn and you can’t just hit a button to play an entire song.

I remember my neighbors had a Schoenhut piano. I was so jealous. Everytime I went over to play I wanted to be able to use the piano. I pretended I was a great concert pianist getting standing ovations for my impressive performance of “Chop Sticks”.

I like that the pianos actually have a pedal and a good place to hold music. Many “toy” pianos don’t include a place to set the music. This shows how much better these pianos are.

  • Mary

Besides being a great outlet for a speech delayed child, these pianos can also help those with motor skill problems.

I really like that these new pianos sound more like a real piano rather than the chime-type sound of the earlier Schoenhut pianos.

So many awards! It’s one thing to have a great product, but it’s another when so many people have noticed and awarded you for it.

  • amie

This is a beautiful product. If I could make one sugestion I think it would look a lot nicer if the back legs of the baby grand looked as solid and classy as the front legs.

  • andy

I like that the stools are made to match the style of the corresponding piano. It would be so great if the stool’s had storage for the piano music books!

  • Tonya

Wow I have actually never seen these before, I thinkI have been missing out. It looks to be the perfect size for a toddler and what I like best about it is that they don’t look like toys (it seems like everything is a sea of blue, red, yellow these days). Beautiful.

I’m definitely putting this piano on a wish list for my boys. I love all the extra things that have been though of in the design.

  • Mary

I think any child would be thrilled to receive a present like this!

These piano’s are fantastic. They look great and sound great and are a great way for young children to learn piano. I would love for our son to learn how to play piano on one of these since it wouldn’t be as imtimidating as grandma’s full size baby grand piano.

  • xenia

I think it’s great that these pianos come with a songbook with corresponding color-coded notes so that my children could learn the piano even if they have a musically deficient parent such as myself!

  • Melissa

I love the tinkly sound toy pianos make!

The other instruments look great too, I like the Schoenhut Accoustic Student Guitar and the Thumb Piano – I think my parents had something like this when I was a kid!

  • Mary

I think the songbook is really helpful!

I love the baby grands. My son is taking piano lessons and would really get a kick out of watching his brothers learn along side him on one of these “toy pianos”

These pianos are so adorable I twittered about this contest so all my friends can see it! I can’t even decide if I like the upright or baby grand best – all so sweet!

  • Jo Ann Muirhead

and….they never need tuning. Wonderful. I bet they hold their value well and can be easily sold when the next size is needed.
